A full day tour from Foynes in County Limerick, including a tour of Bunratty
Castle and Folk Park, Craggaunowen and a Medieval Banquet in Knappogue
Castle.
From Foynes, the tour travels east through County Limerick to
Limerick City and on to the 15th century Bunratty Castle and
adjacent Folk Park, where visitors are welcomed with home-made
scones and tea or coffee. Views from the top of Bunratty Castle extend to
counties Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. Inside the castle, an excellent
collection of 14th to 18th century furniture, paintings and wall-hangings
vividly convey the atmosphere of life in medieval times. Durty Nellie's
Pub next door to the Castle, dates from the 16th century.
At nearby Craggaunowen Castle, visitors can view
a reconstructed crannog, or lake dwelling, and The Brendan,
the leather boat in which explorer Tim Severin crossed the Atlantic Ocean to
North America in 1977 in a bid to prove that a 6th century saint could have
made the same journey.
As special visitors to an exclusive banquet at Knappogue
Castle, tour members are welcomed as Lords and Ladies of the
castle before tucking in for an exclusive medieval banquet, with music and
dance entertainment provided by the singers and musicians of the castle.
Following the afternoon banquet, there is time for a pleasant stroll around the
grounds of the Castle and walled garden.
