A half day tour from Foynes Harbour includes the dramatic Cliffs of Moher and shopping at the sea and golf resort of Lahinch.
The tour passes through Kilrush heritage town and the Victorian resort town of Milltown Malbay, now a magnet for traditional musicians, before arriving at the Atlantic Ocean resort of Lahinch, whose handsome golf course which is ranked 70th of the world best golf courses, has attracted many of the world’s best golfers.
A few miles beyond Lahinch are fine coastal views of the Aran Islands from Liscannor, birthplace of John Philip Holland (1840-1914), inventor of the submarine, who emigrated to the United States in 1973.
The nearby Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland’s most outstanding sights. Rising to a breath-taking 203 metres near O’Brien’s Tower, built by Sir Cornelius O’Brien in 1837, the cliffs offer spectacular views of the Aran Islands and the Twelve Pins of Connemara mountain range. Sea-birds plunge and dive from its craggy ledges, sometimes accompanied by the haunting sounds of traditional musicians who play for visitors. A restaurant and souvenir shops nearby, offer tourists a cead mile failte welcome.
The coach returns to Kilrush for lunch before taking the ferry to Tarbert and on to Foynes.
