The Shannon Region is endowed with some of the most famous links
golf courses, two of whom (Ballybunion Old Course - 11th and Lahinch - 70th)
are ranked in Golf Magazines Top 100 Courses. Arriving at Foynes, you are
chauffeured to the course of your choice in either Co Kerry or Co Clare where
you will meet up with your caddie.
Ballybunion: A Breathtaking Challenge--The
legendary Tom Watson described the glorious links at Ballybunion as "the
best in the world". Ballybunion actually boasts two separate
courses. The Old Course (Par 71, 6,598 yards) and Cashen Course (Par 72, 6,306
yards), which was created by golf architect, Robert Trent Jones Senior. The old
course has played host to the 2000 Irish Open.
Doonbeg: The Doonbeg Championship Golf Course
designed by Greg Norman is the newest golf course in the Shannon Region and is
set along 1.5 miles of crescent-shaped beach and dunes on Ireland's southwest
coast. The par 72 course measures 6,885 yards opened in 2002 and has already
hosted the Palmer Cup. The Resort is located just a short
drive from the Killimer Ferry point which crosses the Shannon Estuary.
Lahinch: Established in 1892 and designed by Old
Tom Morris, this par 72 links course measuring 6,950 yards is situated right
beside Lahinch beach. It is one of two courses at Lahinch Golf
Club with the other measuring 5653 yards. Lahinch is just a short drive from
the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and Lisdoonvarna.
